today was pretty tough going especially the 2 hour slog up from the stream camp. I felt pretty good as caught Katrin up who set off early and then waited ages for Brian to get up, thought he’d come a cropper so went back down trail to find him. He is from Norfolk i suppose.
We all three manged to select the wrong track and ended up with an extra km or so down to some humungous kauri trees so I guess we benefited from our misnavigation. What was a waste was me leaving my trekking poles behind and having to go back to find them when I remembered. There are some beautiful stands of forest here and more kauri than I’ve ever seen before so began to enjoy this bit. My blisters are still there but pain is less and less each day. we’ve also been blessed with the weather so far, warm and sunny but nice and shady here in the forest. Got a bit hot in the afternoon when doing 9km on 4wd track so less shady. We are all getting on well together and i’m sniffing for signs of a love angle between Katrin and Brian but no obvious sparks yet (they have lot in common including liking scrabble!).
We did about 15km today but felt like heaps more.
Manged to text marie and Mike to say ok as have a signal here in camp.
