11am Whale Bay

I couldn’t resist a detour down to this glorious Whale Bay beach which was always our favourite beach when we lived here all those years ago. I’ve had a swim in the crystal clear turquoise waters and just drying off before i get Chaffing!

I’ve done about 16km so far as got away before 7am. 4km of this was not actually on TA trail as I cocked up at one sign and had an unplanned detour to Captain Bourganville’s monument (to commemorate those that died in the war), It wasn’t until I reached the monument that I realised. It was a pleasant spot but I am already feeling tired today after such a long march yesterday and could have done without it!

Had a chat with a couple who were biking along the Whananaki coastal track and got invited for a cuppa if we met up again in Matapouri. Not sure I will see them now I’ve had swim but they were keen to find out how to donate so I gave them my blog address (thinking I should prepare some tear off strips with website address on to give out if I keep meeting all these nice people).

I’m trying to get to Nunguru today which is another 15/16km, bit of uppy downy on the Matapouri bush track to come so will see.
