1. Pondweed
If a pond takes 100 days to fill 100percent with pondweed what day will it be 1 percent full?

Tip- the area covered doubles each day

1a. Pondweed supplementary

If the pond quadruples in size due to heavy rain how many days before it is 100percent full of pondweed again?

2. The frog

From the middle of a pond a frogs first jump to the edge covers half the distance. Each successive jump covers half the previous jump. How many jumps before the frog reaches the edge of the pond?

3. Sustainable Earth

Assume the population of the earth today is the maximum number the earth can sustain. The population is doubling every fourth generation. Three new planets comparable to earth have found and can be colonised. How many generations before these new planets and the earth are full?

4. Compound interest

If you have 100 dollars and receive an interest rate of 7 percent a year how long before your money doubles?

5. Calf development
Chris’s calves increase in size by 2 percent a day, how long before they are twice as big?

5a Supplementary

Will they ever be as big as Nick’s?

6. Slimming hikers

Two hikers lose 1 percent of body mass per day how long before they weigh half as much as when started?
